Specialist Australian Rules Football Program

The Wanneroo Secondary College Specialist Australian Football Program is designed to provide male, female and indeterminate/intersex students with ongoing development in the skills and attributes needed to play Australian Football. The program aims to develop each student’s individual strength of character and personal skills which are essential in emerging as leaders, both on and off the field as well as within the College itself.

Wanneroo Secondary College has a strong reputation in the football community. The program is one of a select few endorsed by both the Department of Education and the West Australian Football Commission. In addition, we have strong links with the West Coast Eagles, Fremantle Dockers and West Perth Football Clubs which provides students with many outstanding opportunities in community football.

We are committed to providing students with the highest standard of coaching and teaching by expertly qualified and experienced staff. The program is integrated into the timetable consisting of practical and theoretical lessons, which provides players with a holistic footballing education including pathways into coaching, playing, umpiring, administration and further education.

Throughout the year, keynote speakers from the football community feature in delivering leadership programs to students on and off the field covering goal setting, sports nutrition advice and other important areas of the game. Sport science industry experts deliver Strength & Conditioning training programs necessary in developing the professional habits required at an elite level. In addition to practical skills, players learn about AFL history, injury prevention, advanced game strategies, broader social issues in the sporting community and modern technology including GPS and video analysis. We also have the privilege of being involved in the West Coast Eagles Edge STEM Program and the West Coast Eagles Aboriginal Leadership Program.
